Post Sedation Instructions

  • Go home and rest for the remainder of the day. You should remain in the company of a responsible adult until you are fully alert.
  • DO NOT drive a car, operate heavy machinery or make any major decisions for the remainder of the day.
  • DO NOT perform any strenuous activity (Ex: mowing grass, lifting heavy objects, etc.)
  • DO NOT attempt to eat a heavy meal immediately. If you are hungry, a light diet (liquid or soft foods) will be more than adequate
  • DO NOT drink any alcoholic beverages or self medicate for the remainder of the day without consulting with our office first (919-439-8999).
  • A feeling of nausea may occasionally develop after minimal or moderate conscious sedation. The following may help to ease the symptom:
    • Lying down for a while
    • Cola or Ginger Ale
    • If nausea persists for more than 4 hours, call the dental office.
  • If you were given a prescription(s), take medications only as directed.
  • If you have been prescribed a narcotic, please do not take until at least 6 hours post treatment, unless directed otherwise by doctor.
  • If you have any unusual issues or questions, you may call the dental office. If unable to contact us, please the triage nurse at your physician’s office or go to the nearest urgent care facility.
